M25 East July News

Hi Peeps, welcome to my ramblings for July. Wow, July already, the summer is really flying along now with shows and weekends away etc every week. Looking back to May we had our first camping weekend of the year at the SEM. 2 of us camped, Us and Malc and Lesley. The rest of the gang descended on Sunday, just in time for a cafe brekky. The SEM is always good to meet up with the lads n lasses from other areas. A nice cosy chat by the fire on Friday night followed by a meal out in town and then drinks and quiz on Saturday night. Oh, did I mention that we won the quiz, oh yeah !! On Sunday it was the actual car show and after we returned with full belly's from the cafe it was time to get the cars gleaming in readiness for some of us to have our cars re valued. I think everyone was pretty pleased with their new valuations. I know I was! To end the weekend perfectly our car got the trophy for 'Best Herald' and Dickie Boy's got 'Best Vitesse'. We also won a big box of choccy's for winning the quiz. They were immediately shared out and scoffed amongst the masses.
The biggest surprise though was when Chris Gunby announced, on behalf of the club that I had been awarded the 'Above and Beyond Award' for, as they said, 'going above and beyond the call of duty' doing my AO stuff. To say I was a bit gobsmacked and chuffed is an understatement but thanks HQ, the trophy and certificate were gratefully received.
A new show we discovered was the Folkestone and Ashford Military and Country Show. We only heard about it a little while ago and as it sounded good we decided to give it go. The weather was forecast to be nice and so we all decided to camp. The organisers were very friendly and accommodating, allowing us an area to set up our camp and display the cars. It was mainly a military show so there was lots of army type vehicles and also some great re enactment groups, especially the wild west village.
There was entertainment all day in the beer tent and even a 1940's barbers in which Barry had some of his locks cut off. The girls and Brian went to the beer tent in the evening while myself, Barry and Kevin went to the local social club to watch the Champions League Final. The less said about that the better ha ha. After walking back down the dark country lanes we joined the others back at the beer tent and were entertained by a local group - Electric Tortoise, they were blooming good, well they had us up dancing. All in all, a cracking weekend and I'm sure we'll be back next year. Malc and Lesley were supposed to join us but unfortunately Malc was crocked with a really painful knee, resulting in him needing crutches. Hope you're up and about soon matey. It was good to see Kevin and Lisa's Vitesse out and about again after it's respray. It was worth the wait as it looks very nice. Just got to get your finger out now Kev and get that towbar fitted lol. Unfortunately Chris's Vitesse still hasn't made an appearance and Anne's Hurricane is still awaiting a fresh coat of paint. I
'm writing this the night before we head off to Laon. The front room is full of sleeping bags, pillows and tent etc. How is all this stuff supposed to fit into a Herald ? I suppose it will, it always does. You'll have to wait until next month for a full report of what we got up to on foreign soil. One more thing before I sign off - our Phil has been in the wars lately, so on behalf of all the M25 East mob - get well soon matey.
That's all till next time peeps -
John.
